Meet the Women of Sabruka Shea Village
Behind the products we source from Sabruka Shea Village Foundation are women whose knowledge, craftsmanship, and dedication deserve to be celebrated.
Based in Doba-Gingabnia, Navrongo, in Ghana’s Upper East Region, Sabruka Shea Village Foundation connects traditional shea knowledge with opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. Its work brings together shea processing, skills training, enterprise development, and community empowerment, with women at the heart of that story.
At Ayebea’s Sankofa Marketplace, we buy products directly from Sabruka. That relationship allows us to bring their work to our customers while supporting the foundation through our purchasing.
The women behind the shea
Sabruka’s story is about more than a finished product. It is about the women whose traditional knowledge and craftsmanship help turn shea into something valuable for their families, their communities, and customers beyond Ghana.
The foundation describes this journey as “From Tree to Butter, Transforming Lives.” Through its work in the shea value chain, Sabruka seeks to create opportunities for women, young people, and vulnerable communities to develop skills and build sustainable livelihoods.
These women are not simply the background to a product’s story. They are skilled producers and essential contributors to their communities’ economic future.
Why we buy directly
Our relationship with Sabruka begins with a straightforward choice: we purchase products directly from them.
We believe the people behind a product matter. Buying directly connects our business to the organization that works with these women and helps bring their craftsmanship to a wider market.
For us, sharing Sabruka’s products also means sharing their story, giving customers a chance to understand where their purchases come from and whose work they represent.
How your purchase supports their work
When you choose a Sabruka-sourced product from Ayebea’s Sankofa Marketplace, you help sustain the customer demand that makes our direct purchasing possible.
That is the connection between your order and our support: we buy from Sabruka, and your purchases help us continue sourcing from them. Our support comes through purchasing their products, rather than a separate donation attached to each sale.
Sabruka’s mission links this work to women’s empowerment, skills development, and sustainable community livelihoods. Choosing their products is a way to value the craftsmanship behind that mission and help create an ongoing market for it.
A connection worth celebrating
We are proud to bring Sabruka’s work into our store and to introduce our customers to the women behind it.
Their knowledge and skill are worth recognizing. Their work is worth choosing. And their story deserves to travel alongside the products they create.
When you shop our Sabruka-sourced shea butter, you become part of that connection, from the women in Ghana’s Upper East Region to our store, and from our store to your home.
Thank you for helping us continue buying directly from Sabruka Shea Village Foundation and celebrating the women at the heart of its work.
